Tonight, I was going to listen to Steely Dan’s Gaucho, but Autumn’s trip to Sam’s had me spending more time with the boys than I anticipated. Which makes me think: I’ve been doing a pretty good job not spending too much time in the studio. I spend an hour a night minimum, sometimes more. My temporary rocking chair is not that comfortable, so I’ll need to replace it soon. This might be a later-soon, as we are hitting the top of our budget on this project.
We hung the curtains earlier today, and it makes quite a difference in the atmosphere of the room. The right speaker now brushes against the curtain, but if anything, the system sounds better than it did before. Still, I think I might try to move the speakers in a bit to see if it makes even more of an improvement, but I’d hate to mess anything up.
I am super impressed with how the system sounds in this room. I guess we did it right. In fact, I’m not sure I have ever heard such an excellent sounding kit; it truly is a joy to listen to. I do need to work on the subwoofer, as I’m not sure it’s doing anything really. This might take me crawling around on the floor for a bit, but that’s OK for better sound. The sacrifices we audiophiles must make sometimes.
I received the Gold Note PSU back from the Music Room. It’s been there since January for repair when it stopped working. However, when I added into the system, it started doing the exact same thing from six months ago: only static through the speakers. Well, since the DAC has been acting weird, too, I think it must be the source of the problem. The DAC’s screen has vertical and horizontal lines through it; the remote control doesn’t work anymore; it took way too long to set up on my wifi. Sigh. The good news is that it still does what it needs to do in the system, and the Music Room seems willing to take both units back on trade, so I may be getting an upgrade soon. That said, the Gold Note DS-10 Plus sounds great; too bad it’s as flaky as a breakfast cereal. More on this soon.
Since I didn’t have time for a full album this evening, I just enjoyed a couple of random songs from an audiophile playlist I snagged from Tidal. Check out Daniel Lanois’ “That’s the Way It Is.” I’ll get to Gaucho soon—maybe tomorrow!
